Fresh at the Market
Spring is really here, right? Spring heralds the arrival of new tastes at the Arlington Farmers’ Market.
Endless Summer Harvest will, for a short time, have Mache, a small, smooth leaf with buttery or some say nutty flavor. It can be used
with other mild leaves or alone as a seafood bed. It will make a nice addition to any sandwich.
This time of year Mother Earth Farm has Morels. Their honeycombed caps will hold your cream sauces for pasta or
seafood dishes.
Homestead Farm anticipates having Spring Onions soon along with radishes and more greens.
Smithfield Farm will have fresh batches of Pesto and sauces when the Basil comes in.
Eco-Friendly Farms has Spring Lamb available for the next several weeks. Then with grilling season approaching, try
their dried, aged grass-fed beef, or look for a new line of Rabbit along with Turkey and Pork sausage. Their hot dogs are
pork and beef, and nothing else if you know what we mean.
Twinsprings Fruit Farm will soon have eggplant and tomatoes. They’ve plenty of tasty apples still on hand. We’ll
have to be patient as Strawberries won’t be coming in for several more weeks.
Be sure to decorate your table with a branch of Peach blossoms and cluster of Daffodils.
The diary and cheese vendors, along with the bakers, don’t change much with the seasons, but they know your tastes do, and
will be stocked accordingly. They and all the vendors look forward to seeing you Saturday.
And remember to look for Summer Market vendors returning later this month as the Summer Market official begins
April 22, 2006.
