Recipes - Dutch Apple Kuchen
Adapted by Chad Pfitzer from Favorite Recipes of St. Paul Lutheran Church by Mrs. C. F. (Rosie) Spiry; Java, South Dakota, 2000.
Ingredients: 2 c. flour 2 t. baking powder 1 t. salt ½ c. sugar ¼ c. butter or lard, melted 1 c. milk 1 egg 5 apples, pared and cut into eighths sugar and cinnamon to taste
Sift dry ingredients together 3 times. Add other ingredients (except apples); stir to a smooth dough. Spread dough in well buttered shallow pan. Press sharp edges of apples into dough in parallel row. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon to taste. Bake in moderate oven until apples are tender.
